Randy Quote "There Are Three Types Of Fences: Physical, Mental and Imaginary. Physical fences have barbed or woven wire that physically hold animals in, but most fences are mental, where electricity does the work. Imaginary fences typically consist of one electric wire. Fences are more of a mental barrier than a physical one.

Fencing Tips from Randy

*There is such a thing as too many fence posts.
*Beware of using steel posts with electric fences. They can cause shortages.
*A 66-inch post should go at least 18 inches into the ground.
*Put heavy-duty wood posts in troublesome areas such as hill, dips and curves, to prevent T-posts from pulling up.
*For most types of wire, an easy splice can be made by making a square knot in the wire and pulling it tight.
*Braided ropes make excellent gates.
*Avoid making permanent fences or gates with tape fencing products, as they are meant for temporary use and don't weather well in winter.
*Check electric fence ground systems regularly.
*Unplug fencers during lightning storms.
*In rocky areas where it's difficult to dig down for a better electrical ground field, try burying a sheet of galvanized steel and connecting a ground rod to it.
*When building a fence, use more wire than needed so you have extra wire later to mend or splice broken wires.
